Whilst chatting through things with a colleague the other day, we were told of their amazement at the level of concentration it can take to play bingo. They were talking about the type played in a bingo hall, which they’d been introduced to only recently whilst touring a town centre for business purposes.

What most surprised them, they said, was the level of manual dexterity coupled with the mental agility required to keep up with all the numbers that were being called – particularly as most of the people they saw were using multiple cards and 2 pens at once. Suffice to say, they came away with a new-found respect for all those of us who play and love bingo!

We’ve had a surprising number of tips from people regarding what it’s best to eat whilst playing at your computer. At first, we didn’t fully understand why it would matter, but a few of you have told us there are certain foodstuffs that enhance your regular game of online bingo, and you’d recommend them to other players.

Apparently, an oat or wheat biscuit with a smattering of soft cheese on it is a particular favourite, with several people telling us it’s both easy to eat and good for the concentration. Second most popular is a yoghurt, and third is a chocolate bar of some kind. Not that we’re trying to tempt you into eating a lot of chocolate, of course – as if you need more tempting!

We’ve read plenty of articles about bingo being a game of random chance, and of course we agree. Often, people who are trying to persuade you that there’s no such thing as a “lucky number”, will cite the laws of probability to explain how it doesn’t make any difference which numbers you choose, as there’s [...]

We’ve read plenty of articles about bingo being a game of random chance, and of course we agree. Often, people who are trying to persuade you that there’s no such thing as a “lucky number”, will cite the laws of probability to explain how it doesn’t make any difference which numbers you choose, as there’s always the same chance of each one coming up from the beginning of the game.

However, what this argument misses is the fact that, yes of course, it’s random, so each number has an equal chance – so in that case why not pick specific numbers? If each one has an equal chance of being chosen, then your own favourites have as much chance as any other, so you’re certainly no worse off choosing them than purely random numbers.

We couldn’t help but smile recently when we heard of a particular superstition related to the changes in the season. Asking around the office, we realised it’s not as unusual as we first thought, and wonder if anyone else has the same idea?

Apparently, it’s bad luck to prepare for the coming seasonal change too early – for instance, by putting your heating on too soon, or wearing t-shirts too early in the case of the weather changing the other way – and Eileen, who informed us of her superstition, won’t play bingo if she sees someone dressed for the season too early.

Let us know if you think the same way, and if it affects your bingo playing, too!
