The number 78 is usually called alongside the nickname “Heaven’s gate”. Heaven features in various bingo and non-bingo related numerical phrases (eg “seventh Heaven”), so this is presumably a simple reference to that. Also, it could possibly be suggested that the number 8 might represent the gate to Heaven.
Interestingly, “Heaven’s Gate” is also widely regarded as being one of the biggest cinema flops of all time. It was a 1980 film, starring Kris Kristofferson, Chirstopher Walken, Jeff Bridges, John Hurt and many others, and was a Western film that pretty much bankrupted the studio, United Artists, on its release, suffering losses of tens of millions of dollars.
